Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park

ZooTampa at Lowry Park replaces the older name, the Tampa Zoo at Lowry Park. This change isn’t terribly significant. The area is home to about 2,000 unique varieties of flora and fauna. From Australia and Asia to Africa, many different continents are reflected here. In addition to the aviary and primate enclosure, the park has natural Florida habitats.

Helping sick or injured manatees in the area is made much easier by the facility’s three pools and large aquarium. You might even get to “backstage” with some penguins and tortoises, or feed an Indian rhino.

Well-known animals at the zoo include elephants from Africa, penguins from Antarctica, panthers from Florida, and orangutans from Borneo. The amusement park features roller coasters suitable for families, a safari through an African landscape, and many other rides. Because of the many events and activities it hosts throughout the year, the zoo is a favorite of both locals and tourists.

The Lowry Park Zoological Garden is a 63-acre donation-only zoo in Tampa, Florida area. In 2009, Parents Magazine named the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa, Florida, the greatest zoo for families, and now, the state of Florida recognizes the zoo as the key center for wildlife and biodiversity conservation in the state. The Lowry Park Zoological Society is a separate non-profit that oversees the zoo.

People from all over the world, not just in the area, visit the zoo to learn about and support the organization’s efforts to save endangered species. The Lowry Park Zoo is an active member of the Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG), the Florida Association of Zoos and Aquariums (FAZA), and the Florida Attractions Association, all of which have their headquarters in Tampa, Florida. The AZA has also approved the Lowry Park Zoo as a suitable home for animals (FAA).

From the 1930s onward, the University of Tampa, located in the middle of downtown Tampa, hosted a small animal display. In many ways, this event signaled the beginning of what would eventually become ZooTampa. Due to its growing popularity, the Seminole Park Zoo relocated to its current home in Lowry Park in 1957 and changed its name to Lowry Park Zoo. In the years that followed, the park introduced a number of new rides and attractions. The zoo’s animal enclosures had fallen into disrepair by the 1980s and could no longer be deemed clean. As a result, the zoo underwent extensive renovations between 1987 and 1988. Many new features and attractions, with a geographic focus, have been introduced since the park reopened.
